Multi PERCT - towards mc-Si bifacial solar cells
With RCT’s Multi PERCT technology, high performance wafer material and further front side optimization (e.g. metallization and texturing) multi crystalline solar cell efficiencies can be pushed towards and even above 19%.
This technology upgrade is an alternative to boost existing multi crystalline solar cell production above 18.5% based on standard mass production equipment and wafers. Besides the focus on the efficiency gain, cost of ownership considerations are a key of this novel monofacial or bifacial technology.
The process sequence utilizes all production equipment of a standard production line for screen printed full area Aluminium back surface field (Al-BSF) solar cells. In addition, the rear side is passivated (PERC) using standard PECVD equipment of the existing production line and prior to this step it has been totally diffused (PERCT) with a cost effective fast boron diffusion using BBr3 utilizing an upgraded standard diffusion tool. Furthermore, a laser is used to open the rear side contacts prior to screen printing of the metallization. RCT's PERCT technology offers all the benefits of any PERC technology successfully implemented into mass production like e.g. multi-stack dielectrica based on Al2O3 or Oxinitride and furthermore options towards bificial and future n-type technologies.
Please note that the PERCT technology is not a PERC process plus boron diffusion, it comes without a special multi-stack dielectrica deposition!
RCT’s Multi PERCT technology upgrade was transferred to an industrial pilot production of a Chinese cell manufacturer. First experiments with standard multi crystalline wafer material and monofacial metallization show efficiency gains of about 0.6%abs with an average solar cell efficiency at 18.5% (best cell 19.0%), without front side optimization.
A unique feature of this technology is the manufacturing of the world’s first bifacial multi crystalline solar cell in a production environment by using finger printed metallization on the rear side instead of full area Al-BSF achieving efficiencies above 18% on the front side. Thereby the bifacial process with an Ag grid on the cell rear side ommits the laser step of PERC processes.
Bifacial cells have an approximately 0.2%abs to 0.3%abs lower front side efficiency than monofacial PERCT cells, but this disadvantage is more than compensated by the competitive production costs due to reduced paste consumption and additional efficiency gain from the rear side.
Also other rear side metallization solutions like plating demonstrate the robustness of solar cells based on RCT’s Multi PERCT technology.

n-type - pioneering cell technology
We will enable your future high efficiency solar cell technology based on n-type wafers. In collaboration with the ISC Konstanz (International Solar Energy Research Center) RCT solutions is developing a highly efficient monofacial n-type solar cell which can be implemented as an upgrade package into mono p-type PERC cell production lines.
This cell technology aims at conversion efficiencies well beyond 21% in production and is not affected by LID (light induced degradation).
